Introducing Green Team’s second summer cohort!
From left: Jacob, Ayden, Oli, Selina
This year’s summer cohort is made up of four returning Green Team members who’ve spent the last year studying environmental justice, erosion, and sustainability in Fort Greene Park. Green Team is a paid, year-long program for teens ages 14–19, which culminates in them creating a Green Infrastructure Project; historically, a garden. The summer cohort is a small continuation of Green Team, working to maintain the gardens created throughout the year.
Good afternoon, I’m Ayden, and my favorite artist is Travis Scott. Though he may be my favorite artist, I float through many genres in terms of music. I believe I now have 120k+ minutes listening to music so far on Spotify. I personally really enjoy the idea of automation systems in terms of literally anything, so I applied that to the drip irrigation systems within my cohort’s project.
Hey, I’m Oli, and I’m sixteen years old! I use they/them pronouns and am passionate about gardening and forestry. I’ve worked with Green Team for the last three years, since its inception. As a rising senior at Brooklyn Technical High School, I try to take what I learn from my major in Environmental Engineering and adapt it to bring green spaces to my community.
What’s Good, I’m Jacob, and I’m fifteen years old, and I have been with Green Team for only a year. I’m good at drawing, visual planning, and diagrams, and I have a passion for art and music. I’m good at expressing my ideas through visual representation. Although I haven't been a very social person, Green Team helped me become more sociable and professional as a leader, using my talent to make blueprints and diagrams for the project, as well as leading volunteers.
Hi guys!! My name is Selina (she/her) and I’m a rising junior at Brooklyn Technical High School. I joined Green Team last year (cohort 3) because I wanted to feel more connected with nature and I really enjoyed my experience! I am passionate about environmental + wildlife conservation and I want to pursue a career in environmental engineering.
We’re excited to be with the park this summer, maintaining Fort Greene Park’s beautiful gardens! Be on the lookout for our next newsletter coming July 24th, and be sure to come check out Cohort Three’s garden, located just across from the hospital on Willoughby and St. Edward’s Street.
Signing off,
Ayden, Oli, Jacob, and Selina
