The Battle of Brooklyn Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, will host a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Prison Ship Martyrs Memorial to honor the thousands of patriots who perished aboard British prison ships during the Revolutionary War. The program will feature a color guard detail in Revolutionary War period uniforms, presenting flags at the opening and close of the ceremony. Wreaths will be laid by the SAR as well as other participating historic and patriotic societies, each joining in tribute to the martyrs. All wreaths are reusable for ceremonial purposes and will be respectfully reclaimed at the conclusion of the program. A historian will provide remarks on the historical events surrounding the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument and reflect on the enduring importance of remembering the sacrifices of those patriots interred on these grounds. Through this commemoration, we honor the courage, suffering, and ultimate sacrifice of the Prison Ship Martyrs.
