Taking care of the park is an all-hands effort, and that includes The Green Team: a diverse group of young people between the ages of 14 and 19 who spend their free time learning how to mitigate—and even potentially resolve—the environmental harms and public health risks to Fort Greene Park. Working together with NYC Parks, Friends of Commodore Barry Park, Brooklyn Navy Yard, and our wonderful Advisory Committee, The Green Team participates in hands-on education and training, youth-led research, and intergenerational collaboration and mentorship—all to help design and implement green infrastructure solutions to the important environmental issues at Fort Greene Park.

With the guidance, support, and supervision of the Green Team Educators, cohort members will engage in community-centered work and learning opportunities. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Attend twice weekly sessions, for a total of 4 hours per week

  • Park maintenance work, including but not limited to: planting, weeding, watering, and litter pick-up

  • Active participation in learning sessions including but not limited to: asking and answering questions, providing feedback, sharing relevant information

  • Sharing out about lessons and projects to the public via Fort Greene Park Conservancy social media, newsletters, website, community meetings, and more

  • Engaging regularly with the public through Green Team-led volunteer and education sessions

Applications are open from early August to mid-September.
