On Sunday, October 26, 2008, the Fort Greene Park Conservancy presents the Ninth Annual Halloween Festival in Brooklyn's historic Fort Greene Park. The event was recheduled due to predicted bad weather. Children will be treated to games, sack races, face painting, entertainment, dancing, and pumpkin decorating - and it's all FREE.. The festival kicks off at 12 noon and runs until 3:30 PM on the park's Great Lawn at Dekalb Avenue and Washington Park. The party starts with "The Great PUPkin," a wild costume contest for dogs and their owners co-sponsored by Fort Greene PUPS, a local dog-owners organization – and closes with a popular kids' costume contest and parade.

The festival is organized and produced by volunteer members of the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to the restoration and upkeep of Brooklyn's historic Fort Greene Park. This free event is sponsored and supported through donations from local businesses, civic groups and individuals. The Conservancy is always looking for volunteers and supporters from all over New York City to help us execute our plans. If you interested in helping, email us.

Overview of the 2007 Festival: Because the event ended up falling on the rain date we unfortunately lost most of our volunteers, however the parents, many also in costume, pitched in making the hands-on art activities (decorating pumpkins and reusable canvas trick or treat totes) a huge success. There was non-stop live entertainment for the duration of this event. Live perfomances included the Brooklyn Music School Dance Troupe, Fusha Dancers and Opus Ditty & the Hoedown Gang. The costume parade was led by "witch" Kim Hayes, director of Keep It Movin Pilates Studio. The parade circled the stage through the Haunted House Hallway many times before everyone was ready for the awards presentations. Judges represented three local Brooklyn historic brownstone neighborhoods: Phillip Kellogg (former chair of the FGA) from Fort Greene, James Barnes (Conservancy board member) from Clinton Hill, and Robert Biegen from Prospect Heights. Parents with children travelled from as far as Staten Island to participate in this festival. We again thank the Food Sponsors who were extremely generous, along with all the Festival's wonderful sponsors.
- Thanks to all! Natasha Harsh, organizer.
