Saturday, July 4
History on the Hill 1 p.m. Celebrate Independence Day with a guided tour of historic Fort Greene Park and discover the role this park played in The American Revolution.

Saturday, July 11
The Redcoats are coming (and Hessians too)! 1 p.m. The Americans were dealt a crushing blow in the Battle of Brooklyn. Find out who did the dealing.

Sunday, July 12
Insect Insanity 10 a.m. Bug out with the Rangers and learn all about the creepy crawlers living in Fort Green Park and make your own buggy craft. Children 12 and under.

Sunday, July 12
Walt Whitman's Fort Greene Park 1:00 p.m.
Walk around Brooklyn's first official park and learn about the poet's intimate connection with Fort Greene Park. The afternoon includes readings of Whitman's prose and poetry and discussions about the park, the Wallabout Martyrs and the monument dedicated to their memory. Your guide is Greg Trupiano, Artistic Director of the Walt Whitman Project. This event will conclude with a walk up Myrtle Avenue to 99 Ryerson Street, the last existing building in Brooklyn that was a residence of Walt Whitman. FREE. Rain or shine. Colonial Living 12 p.m. - 3 p.m. Discover what life was like in America in the years just before the Revolution. Try your hand at colonial era games, butter churning or watch a colonial open pit cooking demonstration.

Sunday, July 19
Tree-mendous Walk 11 a.m. Join the Rangers for a leisurely stroll through the park and find out all about trees.

Saturday, July 25
Fort Greene and the Revolution 11 a.m. Discover the rich history of the site once known as Fort Putnum and the role it played in the American Revolution.

Sunday, July 26
Who, Who, Who. Did I Eat? 1 p.m. Join the Rangers for a hands-on ecology lesson as we dissect owl pellets.


Note: All Ranger programs, unless noted, begin at the Fort Greene Park Visitors Center, located at the top of the hill next to monument (unless noted otherwise). Enter at Myrtle Avenue, or DeKalb Avenue at Washington Park.

Journey through Time Neighborhood Walking Tour / Boreum Hill & Cobble Hill / 10 a.m. / Meet at Pacific St. & 4 Ave. The area around Atlantic Avenue is undergoing a renaissance, but there are still some hidden historic gems tucked away throughout the neighborhood. Join us as we uncover them and explore the area.

Sunday, July 12
Journey through Time: Coney Island / Coney Island Boardwalk / 10 a.m. / Meet on the Boardwalk in front of the Parachute Jump at W 19 St. This could be the final season for the famous and infamous Coney Island as we know it. Join us for a look at the "Nickel Empire", when 5 cents took you to a whole new world. Bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour will last approximately 2 hours.

The McWalk / McCarren Park / 10 a.m. / Meet at corner of Bedford Ave. & 12 St. Join us on a walk from McCarren to McGolrick Park and discover their past, present and future.

Sunday, July 19
History Club: Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge / City Hall Park / 11 a.m. / Meet at the Fountain in City Hall Park. Meet the Rangers for a walking tour exploring City Hall Park and the Brooklyn Bridge. The tour ends on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Tour will last approximately 2 hours.

The Fort Greene Park Greenmarket is open every Saturday year round from 8am-5pm. Located on the corner of Washington Park and DeKalb Avenue, the market brings a variety of farm-fresh foods to Fort Greene -- from vegetables, meats, fresh seafood, and breads, to fresh flowers, perennials & fruit.
