As the centerpiece of FGPC's Walt Whitman bicentennial celebration, Compagnia de’ Colombari’s More or Less I Am (MOLIA) is a music-theatre piece drawn entirely from Whitman’s 1855 Song of Myself. In 1855, Whitman called upon his fellow Americans to contemplate the needs of the nation from a broader and more philosophically inclusive perspective. Today, MOLIA invites us to contemplate what it means to be part of a diverse democratic society. Featuring poet Carl Hancock Rux and Open Doors Reality poet Levar Lawrence. On the Monument Plaza.
More or Less I Am will be followed by a talk-back featuring Whitman Scholars and local community leaders to discuss the relevance of Whitman’s work for 21st-century Fort Greene.
Compagnia de' Colombari is an international collective of performing artists founded and directed by Karin Coonrod that generates theater in surprising places. Music by Colin Jacobsen and Kyle Sanna of Brooklyn Rider.
